Music in the Vineyards is pleased to announce that, for a tenth year, we are offering merit awards of up to $1,200 to graduating high school seniors who have shown exceptional talent as an instrumentalist or pianist, and who intend to develop that talent beyond high school. The scholarship is given to further the recipients’ musical education at the college level.

Seniors do not have to commit to majoring in music in college.  They simply have to state that they are going to continue their musical studies.

For 18 years MITV has been perpetuating fine chamber music through an outstanding Festival that takes place every August. As in all of our endeavors, we promote the highest musical standards and intend to help student musicians achieve their goals.

Application Deadline

Application, personal statement, letter of recommendation, and audition tape or CD must be postmarked no later than Friday, March 30th, 2012. Please send all materials to the following address:

Merit Award Criteria

• Applications will be accepted from instrumentalists only, not vocalists.
• Applicant must be a graduating high school senior and resident of Napa County.
• Applicant must study classical music.
• Applicant's musical accomplishment must be at an advanced level.
• Applicant must plan to continue to study music at the college/university level.
• Applicant must be accepted at a college, university or conservatory in order to receive the Merit Award.

Instructions to Applicants

• Complete the application form. Download Application form here.
• Have the application form signed by a music instructor.
• Submit a personal statement, which includes future goals in music study, not to exceed one typed/printed page.
• Request a letter of recommendation by private or school music instructor, to be postmarked no later than the application deadline of March 25, 2011. The letter of recommendation may be submitted with application or under separate cover.
• Submit an audio sample on CD to MITV. The CD should include two contrasting pieces and may be accompanied or unaccompanied. Audio sample should be a minimum of 10 minutes. Partial movements of a work are acceptable. Label CD with name, instrument and phone number. CDs will not be returned. Please make sure files are .mp3 or .wav format.
